2013 - Fourth Year Apprentice - Annonymous - #3

As a union sheet metal worker, I feel that joining the union was one of the best things that I have done for my career.  I have had the privilege of working in both the non-union and union sectors of the trade.  First, let's start with wages.  I have made alot more money in the union than the non-union.  you also get better benefits and retirement.  Another positive of the union is that if the day does come for a lay-off, you don't have to look for a new job. The union hall will find you more work as soon as possible.  In my personal opinion, the union sector is the way to go.  If you want great wages, steady work and a good career, I would recommend looking into the sheet metal workers union.  I wish I had done it ten years ago.
